The History of Yo Barber
Yo Barber holds a proud and deep-rooted place in the Bacchus Marsh community, with a history spanning 80 years, originating in 1945.
Originally known simply as “The Barbershop of Bacchus Marsh,” it is the OG — the original barbershop of the town. For many years, it was the only place locals went for a proper cut and shave. Over the decades, the shop passed through a handful of different owners, each continuing the tradition of quality service that Bacchus Marsh came to know and love.
The original shop was located across the road from the Bacchus Marsh Hospital on Grant Street. After some time, it relocated to the corner at 64 Grant Street, where it stayed for many years. Eventually, the barbershop moved once again to its current home at 60A Grant Street — a charming building that is approximately 130 years old.
In 2016, the barbershop took on a new identity: Yo Barber.
The name “Yo” was chosen by current owner Rachel Middlebrook as a tribute to her dear friend (“Yo”) Rubin who sadly passed away around the same time Rachel took ownership.
“Yo” means “I” — a reminder that true well-being starts with looking after yourself.
At Yo Barber is about taking time to care for your physical, emotional, and mental wellness.
When you step through our doors, you’re choosing to invest in yourself.
Since taking over, Rachel has led Yo Barber through a remarkable journey of growth. After relocating to 60A Grant Street, the Yo Barber team expanded to 8 team members, creating a vibrant and energetic hub in Bacchus Marsh.
In addition to barbering, Yo Barber has evolved into a holistic wellness destination. Rachel expanded the offerings by introducing a Salt Therapy Room, and in the past year, the growth continued with the addition of Recreate and Recovery — a space featuring traditional steam sauna, cold plunge, and breathwork services.
Today, Yo Barber proudly stands as the OG of Bacchus Marsh barbering — honouring its roots while constantly growing and recreating itself to meet the evolving needs of the community.
